Open Doors–

I’ve been wanting to write about open doors for a long time now, but the door was shut. The door of my creative mind was closed, locked, the key thrown away. I couldn’t break in to open that door and get the words out for you.

But one day, the Lord led me to the Big Timber Writers’ club at the Carnegie Library. A friendly group welcomed me with pens and paper, tea and snacks.  We were encouraged to silence the inner critic and write something bad, so a least we were writing SOMETHING!

So, I pulled out the pen and paper provided and started scribbling this story. And guess what! That was the key! The locks were broken and the door slowly opened as I jotted words, line by line, on the school notebook paper.

Last May, I had a closed-door experience at the Denver Airport.  Scheduling a trip in May to visit my mom for Mother’s Day, I thought for sure there would be no danger of snow. But a huge late-season winter storm hit Denver a few days before my trip, postponing and cancelling many flights. My plane was delayed over an hour in Bozeman as we waited for the plane to arrive from Denver.  We were assured that we would all get to Denver in time for our flights because all flights were delayed––all except for my connecting flight to Des Moines, Iowa!  It was right on time!

Sitting in the last row of my first flight, I prayerfully waited for the other passengers to de-plane, so I could find my gate.  I ran what seemed like the entire length of the C terminal, through the mall, around pretzel stands and chocolate booths. When I reached my gate, the door was shut and the sign above said, “Boarding Closed.” 

Before I could be heart-broken, a man at a nearby service desk saw me and made a phone call. Soon, someone came up the gate tunnel and opened the door, letting me onto the plane––the last passenger of May 6, 2026 to Des Moines. I was so thankful for that open door. Now I could visit my mom for Mother’s Day and I would be with her that very evening.  I thanked Jesus for opening that door!

This summer my family stayed in a pop-up camper at the KOA (because we’re still homeless after losing our home to mold four years ago). Almost every morning, I took a walk to the nearby prairie dog town.  There, I was greeted by chirps of dozens of prairie dogs, popping up and down from various holes.  I marvel at the joy they have playing and chirping––and they always have an open door to pop into whenever they are afraid or just want to return home. They even have a way of escape through a back door. 

Pray for Open Doors of Escape

Remember the story of Joseph, how Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him, but he took the way of escape.  Way to go Joseph! 

…But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside. Genesis 39:12 (NKJV)

O Lord Jesus, help us always to take the way of escape!  I pray as you taught us, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever!  I claim Your promise that when we resist the devil he will flee. Protect me and my family with open doors, O Lord. 

 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV)

Windows of Heaven

Sometimes, instead of a door, God opens a window! Remember how Rahab helped the spies escape through her window in Joshua 2. Remember how Paul was let down through a window in the wall in 2 Corinthians 11:33. And sometimes those open windows give us a glimpse of heaven! Remember Jacob’s ladder going up to heaven with angels ascending and descending upon it in Genesis 28. Remember how Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on His throne, high and lifted up in Isaiah 6:1–3. Remember how Daniel saw the Ancient of Days opening His books and the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven in Daniel 7. Remember how the heavens were opened in Matthew 3:16–17 and a voice said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”  Remember how Stephen saw heaven opened and Jesus sitting at the right hand of God in Acts 7:55.

But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, Acts 7:55 (NKJV)

…when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory… Matthew 19:28 (NKJV)

Abba Father, Lord Jesus, even now You sit on the thrones of Your glory in heaven!  Daniel saw You opening the books and coming on the clouds of heaven to reign forever.  Stephen saw You standing at the right hand of the Father. John saw the rainbow around Your thrones and the crystal sea.  O Lord Jesus, come, come in glory! We long for You to come!  Open the doors of heaven so we can see You and enter in.  Be glorified today!!!

Open Door Miracles

So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?”  2 Kings 7:2 (NKJV)

Everything is possible with our God! He is able!  O Lord Jesus, open the windows of heaven and rain down your blessings upon us!  Meet the needs of each person, satisfy the longing heart, heal the leper and all who need Your healing, save the lost, comfort those who mourn, provide food for the hungry, homes for the homeless, vehicles for those in need…

I pray for open door miracles. I pray for open doors like the prairie dogs. I pray for open doors to take my writing to ladies.  I pray for the door of a home to open for me and my family.  I pray I can help open doors for others as the writing club did for me, unlocking my mind and pen which had been bound by the enemy.  I pray for you, dear friend, to have open doors for all Your dreams, wherever God leads you. 

And remember, the Greatest Door and Door-Opener of all is our Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father, who opened the doors of heaven, making a way for all who believe to enter in. 

And you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:11 (NIV)

Today’s TEA CUPP:  Another open door is the torn curtain where Jesus opened the gate of heaven for us to enter in prayer now and in heaven forever. Let’s walk through this open door today!

Yet He had commanded the clouds above,

Meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, Colossians 4:3 (NKJV)
