And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah… Genesis 29:35 (NKJV)

I love reading Genesis every January, This year the names of Jacob’s sons jumped out at me. I listed them in my prayer journal, along with their meanings that are noted in my Bible’s footnotes. When I looked at the list, I realized those words describe our Lord Jesus. And since Jacob’s fourth son, Judah, means praise, I decided to use all the names of Jacob’s sons to praise our Lord.
Now I will praise the Lord! O Lord Jesus, I praise You with the names of Jacob’s sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel.
You are the God-Who-Sees-Me and sent Your only begotten Son (Reuben: See, A Son).
You are my Lord who hears and answers prayers (Simeon: Heard).
You are Jesus the Messiah, and I’m attached to You. I love You! (Levi: Attached).
You are my Praise all the day. Be glorified, O Lord (Judah: Praise).
You are the Judge of the whole earth and Your harvest is coming soon (Dan: Judge).
You are my God with Whom I’ve wrestled, as did Jacob (Naphtali: My Wrestling).
You are coming again with a troop, ten thousands of Your saints (Gad: Troop).
You have created a beautiful place for us in heaven where we will be happy (Asher: Happy).
You paid our debt on the cross, pouring out Your blood for the sins of all the world (Issachar: Wages).
You are my dwelling place, I hide under the shadow of Your wings (Zebulun: Dwelling).
You are adding more believers daily to Your Kingdom and then You are coming again (Joseph: He will add).
You are the Son of God, sitting at the Right hand of the Father (Benjamin: Son of the Right hand).
Abba Father, dearest Lord Jesus, I love and praise You! Judah! Judah! Judah!
Today’s TEA CUPP: You can do this, too! Read Genesis 29 and 30 for the names of Jacob’s sons. Make a list in your prayer journal of the names and meanings. Now write your own prayer of exaltation to the Lord! What other chapters in Genesis cause you to exalt our God? How about Genesis 1?
This people I have formed for Myself;
They shall declare My praise. Isaiah 43:21 (NKJV)
Stand up and bless the LORD your God Forever and ever! Blessed be Your glorious name, Which is exalted above all blessing and praise! Nehemiah 9:5 (NKJV)
You are my God, and I will praise You;
You are my God, I will exalt You. Psalm 119:28 (NKJV)
