Here I Am, Lord

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

Have you ever noticed how certain churches have a favorite hymn they love to sing?  And whenever you hear that song, you think of that church?  That happens to me because we used to move so often.

A long time ago we lived in a dear little town east of Cincinnati, Ohio.  While there we attended a church who loved Jesus.  Their favorite hymn was “Here I Am, Lord.” I remember as the choir led us with their beautiful voices, I would join in the chorus from my pew, and in my heart truly be saying, “Here I Am, Lord!” It is no surprise then that God called us away from that church and little town to move across the country to serve Him.

As you read God’s Word and underline verses and pray about your call, be ready to proclaim “Here I Am, Lord” and be prepared to go wherever Jesus sends you (whether that is next door or around the world).  Where is He sending you today?

Here I Am, Lord (words by Daniel L Schutte)

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.

I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have born my peoples pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

Amen.
