Eagle’s Wings

But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

It was a beautiful fall day, an extra one God blessed us with in November, before the winter snows.  The breezes were just right for kite-flying, so our son Kevin took his multi-colored bird into the big field.  As he tugged the string and the kite rose upward, I gazed in awe at the beauty, wanting to capture the moment in my memory.  The rainbow kite flew against a clear blue sky.  This picture was framed by snow-capped mountains and evergreen trees.  My son happily watched his kite glide on the wind, as I soaked up this memorable moment.

A few times when the kite plummeted to the ground, Kevin picked it up and tried again.  His big brother Jacob pedaled over on his bicycle to help.  With Jacob holding the kite and Kevin running, the kite rose into the air and was sailing again, soaring like the bald eagles we’ve seen recently in our valley. Kites and eagles — two beautiful visions.

What features did God give the majestic eagle?  With 7,000 feathers, this bird can fly at 35 mph, soaring up to 10,000 feet above sea level.  While gliding, the eagle spreads its tail feathers to get more surface area to catch the up-drafts.  A faithful bird, the eagle mates for life.  Though it was removed from the Endangered Species List in 2007, the bald eagle remains a symbol of freedom to all who live in the United http://www.healthsupportyou.com/accutane-isotretinoin/ States.  Freedom is what we can enjoy as followers of Christ who have been set free from our sins.

This past summer we watched the small group series, “If You Want to Walk on Water, You have to Get Out of the Boat,” by Max Lucado.  The series is based on the Bible story of Peter walking on water.  The main idea is we can’t walk on water unless we try, and Jesus will be there to help us if we sink.  The final session of the video series shows an eagle, much like the ones we have in our valley, gliding through the sky-blue heavens.  This crowning moment was to encourage us all to get out of our boats.  How I want to be like that eagle, soaring on God’s spirit.

Brilliant kites, beautiful mountains, soaring eagles, brothers helping brothers…these are the things God uses to remind me of His Word and His promises.  When my kite comes crashing down, He uses friends and family to raise me up on eagles wings, so that I can shine  for Him.  I claim His promise in Isaiah 40:31 and He renews my strength to fly again.   I look forward to that day when I am soaring like the eagles.

And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

In Memory of Angelica May

Thus says the LORD:
“ A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation
and bitter weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted for her children,
Because they
are no more.” Jeremiah  31:15 (NKJV)

We have been with child, we have been in pain;
We have, as it were, brought forth wind…
Isaiah 26:18 (NKJV)

What do you do when you come to such sad verses in your Bible?  For those of us who have lost babies, these words can bring us to tears.  Yet we know the God of the Universe understands our sorrow, for it’s right here in His Word.  I underline the verses and write a “U” for “Understanding my story” next to them.  This is my story right in God’s Word.  Perhaps it is your story, too.

But I don’t need to stop there, for God also has words of comfort for me…

I will rejoice in Jerusalem,
And joy in My people;
The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her,
Nor the voice of crying.
“ No more shall an infant from there
live but a few days… Isaiah 65:19-20 (NKJV)

He will swallow up death forever,
And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces…
Isaiah 25:8 (NKJV)

I underline these verses and write a “P” for “Promises” next to them.  I claim God’s promises that He will wipe away every tear, and that babies will always live in heaven. Jesus comforts me with His Word and promises, as we share our TEA CUPP time together.   And that is how it is today, as I remember our  dear Angelica May.

In Loving Memory of Our Babies…

Standing on the Promises

The LORD is faithful to all His PROMISES
and loving toward all He has made.
Psalm 145:13b (NIV)

A year or so ago I was going through a tough time (well actually, it seems there is always a problem we are experiencing), but during that tough time, a friend suggested adding something new to my quiet time routine, something fresh to feed my hurting soul.  She had several books she recommended, but we didn’t have money for books.  Yet I did have available to me an old hymnal.

So I began to read a hymn each morning as part of my quiet time.  Some hymns I didn’t know the tune, but the words were so powerful I could read them as poetry or prayers.  Other hymns were familiar to me, and I hummed along in my quiet place where it didn’t matter if I was off key.  And so God used the hymn-writers of the past as a balm for my hurting soul.   There is probably an old hymnal at your church, just waiting for you to borrow and bless your quiet time.

One hymn I enjoy that reminds me to claim all God’s PROMISES in good http://findviagra.com/viagra-popular-drug-world/ times and in bad, is this hymn written by R. Kelso Carter in 1886, “Standing on the Promises.” May your day be blessed as you sing this hymn and stand on God’s PROMISES today, too.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Refrain

“Yes!”

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are Yesin Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. ” 1 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

This week we are searching for God’s Promises in His Word.  I just love what He says about His own promises:  They are “Yes” in Christ!  God says “Yes” to all His promises!

Which of God’s promises are you claiming this week?  Here are a few of my favorites…

A promise for athletes and all of us…

“With God we will gain the victory,
and He will trample down our enemies.”
Psalm 108:3 (NIV)

A promise for farmers and ranchers…

The LORD will indeed give what is good,
and our land will yield its harvest.
Psalm 85:12 (NIV)

A promise for our children…

But from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD’s love is with those who fear Him,
and His righteousness with their children’s children
Psalm 103:17 (NIV)

A promise for guidance…

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.
Psalm 32:8 (NIV)

A promise for protection…

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV)

A promise God loves me…

The Father Himself loves you because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God. John 16:27 (NIV)

A promise God will always provide…

“And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

A promise Jesus is coming again…

For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NIV)

A promise for using God’s Word in prayer…

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. Mark 13:31 (NIV) & Luke 21:33(NIV)

Please share your favorite promises from God’s Word.  Say “Yes” to God’s promises today.
