Good Friday: Who do you say that I am?

Good Friday

This Good Friday I re-run one of my favorite devotions for Jesus called, “Who do you say that I am?”  As you remember His sacrificial death today and His miraculous resurrection on Easter Sunday, I pray you also will answer Jesus….

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Matthew 16:15, Mark 8:29, Luke 9:20

Perhaps the most important question of all time is found in three of the Gospels.  It has implications for eternity, as each of us must answer Jesus’ query, “Who do you say that I am?” Jesus was not just asking His disciples then; He is asking us today. We need to answer this question, for what we do with Jesus will determine our eternity.

Our pastor friend delivered an awesome sermon one Sunday by this very title, “Who do you say that I am?” (Rich Parker, January 18, 2004, Big Timber Lutheran Church, Montana).  Pastor Rich opened to us God’s Word and showed us Biblical characters who have said who Jesus is, from angels to demons, to people just like you and me.  Their very words we can use when we pray to Jesus:

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17 (Jesus’ baptism)

Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,

Who do you say that I am?

Today’s TEA CUPP:  Sit down with Jesus and tell Him who you say He is.  Give Him glory for His sacrificial death on the cross, His miraculous resurrection, and His promise of eternal life.  Tell Jesus today.
