Bless, Bless, Bless

When you are praying for people, do you ever get tired of using the same words over and over?  Bless Susie, bless Dan, bless Mike, bless Jane…  Would you like to add some new words to your prayers?

My favorite way to petition the Lord is using God’s Word as prayer.  Every day when I meet with the Lord, I have my big list of names.  As God gives me verses, I use them to pray back to Him, everyone on my heart.

One day I discovered in Psalm 4…Let the light of Your face shine upon us, O LORD. Psalm 4:6 (NIV).

So, I used this verse to pray for everyone on my prayer list that day….Let the light of Your face shine on KENT, O Lord, and be with him at work today…Let the light of Your face shine on KALLIE, O Lord, and be with her at college today…

Of course, I add more details to my prayers for those closest to me. But can you see how this gives you a new way to pray, instead of just “bless.”  It gives you a new flavor for your TEA CUPP!

Some other verses I like to use to petition God are…

May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD,
even as we put our hope in You.
Psalm 33:22 (NIV)

May Your unfailing love rest upon JACOB, O LORD,
even as we put our hope in You.

I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who fulfills His purpose for me.
Psalm 57:2 (NIV)

I cry out to God Most High,
to God, who fulfills His purpose for KEVIN.

Deliver me from my enemies, O God;
protect me from those who rise up against me.
Psalm 59:1  (NIV)

Deliver KENT from HIS enemies, O God;
protect KENT from those who rise up against HIM.

Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.

From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  Psalm 61:1-2 (NIV)

Lead JACOB to the rock that is higher than he.

Hear me, O God, as I voice my complaint;
protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
Psalm 64:1 (NIV)

Protect KALLIE from the threat of the enemy.

Do you see how you can use God’s own Words to pray to Him for all the dear people on your prayer list? Keep searching your Bible for more verses that help you speak your heart when you petition God.  Add a new verse and a new flavor to your TEA CUPP time today!
