“You are my God, and I will give You thanks; You are my God, and I will exalt You!”
Psalm 118:28 (NIV)
This verse sums up the first two parts of My Tea Cupp Prayers beautifully – Thanks & Exalt. We are to do both and they are not the same thing. What’s the difference? Thanks comes from my heart for all the blessings God has sent my way. I thank Him for each blessing, naming them one by one (as best I can). Exalt also comes from my heart, but it is about God and His Son Jesus. When we exalt God, we are glorifying Him for who He is, not the blessings He gives us. I exalt Him for being my Savior, Redeemer, Joy, Crown, Comforter, Rock, Friend, Hiding Place, Shield, Great Reward…
My daughter had a little prayer book when she was young. Since today is Good Friday, the day we remember Jesus’ death on the cross, this prayer from her book came to my mind, and it fits so well today…
“On Good Friday Jesus died and rose again at Eastertide. All thanks and praise to God.”
Thanks is for blessings from God,
Exalt is for praising God for Who He is.
Thank the Lord, Exalt Jesus…and I’m sure God will be smiling down on you.
In that day you will say:
“Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name;
make known among the nations what He has done,
and proclaim that His name is exalted. Isaiah 12:4 (NIV)
