Jesus Understood His Story

Here I am, reading my Bible, searching for some Understanding of my life’s story.  And I begin to realize that Jesus did the same thing! There He was in the temple at the age of 12, talking with the religious leaders.  Jesus must have known from early on – “Hey, God is talking about ME here!”

Starting in Genesis with the fall of Adam and Eve to sin, Jesus could see the need for a Savior in the world.  Studying His family tree, He knew He was descended from David, God’s chosen king.  As He read the prophets words which are now part of our Old Testament, perhaps He thought…

“The virgin will be with Child and will give birth to a Son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23 (NIV)  & Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)

“Hey, that was My mom!”

” ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a Ruler
who will be the Shepherd of my people Israel.’
Matthew 2:6 (NIV) & Micah 5:2 (NIV)

“Hey, I was born in Bethlehem!”

So he got up, took the Child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my Son.” Matthew 2:15 (NIV) & Hosea 11:1 (NIV)

“Hey, I lived in Egypt when I was a toddler!”

Jesus must have pondered all this in His heart, knowing this was His story, and also knowing His purpose and ultimate destiny was the cross.

Can we study God’s Word and find our story, too? Can we find our purpose, our calling, and know our ultimate destiny?

I believe God gives us glimpses each day of His story for us in His Word.  I don’t want to miss a single day or I might miss an important part of the story!  What exciting verses is God sharing with you?
