Consider the Great Things

“But be sure to fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24 (NIV)

God calls us to understand our story. God calls us to consider the great things He has done for us! This is what the “U” part of the TEA CUPP is all about. As we read God’s Word, we discover verses that speak to our story. We recall, “Oh, yes! That happened to me, too. And the Lord helped me through it!” As our story continues to unfold each day, we understand a little more of where we’ve been and where God is taking us. This is such an exciting part of prayer.

As you consider the great things God has done for you, remember His greatest act of all — when He saved the whole world from sin with Jesus’ death on the cross.  From the first sin of Adam and Eve, blood was required as an atonement for sin.  God had to kill some animals to make clothes for Adam and Eve, thus the first blood.  Then the Israelites were required to offer animal sacrifices to atone for their sins.  When Jesus gave His life, He was the perfect, spotless, sinless lamb, and His sacrifice was needed only once for the sins of the entire world.

So how can you connect yourself to this story of salvation?  I love the way you can take a verse like John 3:16 (NKJV) and plug your own name in where it says “the world.”

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

For God so loved me, my husband, our children, our siblings, our parents, our cousins, our friends…that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Plug your name into John 3:16 and consider the GREAT THINGS Jesus has done for you!
